Debuging kernel

Hello,
  I need to read kernel messages on boot to debug Jlime.

I am testing booting from microSD, and because I do not have
all the necessary for this :
http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Serial_console
I have set console=tty0 in kernel .config. But, no luck, messages
do not appear.

If I boot a useful rootfs, for example from :
http://downloads.qi-hardware.com/software/images/Ben_NanoNote_2GB_NAND/latest/
cat /proc/cmdline says :
mem=32M console=ttyS0,57600n8 rootfstype...

so I guessed that uboot has command line arguments inside. Is that right?
If so, is there some way easier to set command line arguments than rebuilding?

Thanks in advance.
