git checkout problem

Hello everyone,

I'm following this guide to setting up a cross-compile tool-chain.

I'm up to the step

git checkout --track -b xburst origin/xburst

but I get the error

fatal: git checkout: updating paths is incompatible with switching branches

I have not used git before. Can someone please advise? Thanks
